DO YOU EVER FEEL
there is no greater feeling or gift in this world than motherhood. Well of course. Right? Whoa. Motherhood covers a whole lot of material- highs, lows, doubts, wins, fails. And of course, that feeling that exists of loving on your child is like no other. So how, HOW, and why, WHY just one day for moms? One day a year! Like, really?
Stop. Stop the madness that all the loving and appreciation and kindness can be returned, in equivalency, in just one day- all the unselfish and unrelenting and unconditional love you give everyone else. That would be an incredibly tall expectation for our tribe.
So what about the other side of Mother’s Day. The side that says this is a reminder, a pause, a call to action, to us- us being you girlfriend- to take some ownership in this return of love and appreciation and kindness- unselfishly, unconditionally, unrelenting.
NURTURE YOURSELF
Stop and nurture yourself. Think about what that means to you. I love being out and exploring. Walks, hikes, drives- among our city, the city next door, the cities nearby- a little out of the way…hmm… perfect! Call the girls- We are going on a HOMETOWN ROAD TRIP. I have this reoccurring theme in how I want to live and in how I want to give.
…take the time to make your soul happy
TO YOU FROM YOU
Why the guilt? Why do we call them guilty pleasures? How many times have you picked something up not out of necessity but you knew the joy it would bring to your little one, to someone at home, to a friend. Exactly! What are you crushing on? You are allowed to take a moment for yourself, do for yourself, be kind to yourself, spoil yourself.
… Girlfriend, cherish yourself.
LET GO
Have you read For the Love by Jen Hatmaker? Oh it is so good for the heart!
Why is it that our kids can rock our worlds like no other experience in this life (and life is a big experience) but we do not abandon. Never! We charge into the struggles with strength, acceptance and a determination to see things through to the other side.
We. Love. Unconditionally- for them. But do we- for ourselves?
What if, we let go of our insecurities, our doubts, our constant worry of what we are doing wrong. Could there be any bigger or more important gift we could gift ourselves?
…you deserve not to abandon yourself
LOVE YOUR JOY
We already know who you love (strong feeling we will all say kids, our husbands, our partners, our families). So try this- think beyond that. I told my students when I was in the classroom a long time ago that someday I wanted to write. I started blogging because I love to create and share. This has brought me authentic, immense joy. But in this format, I have never been so insecure. How dumb will I sound (notice I said how and not if)? Then I thought, but this is my joy. Why would I use someone else to measure my joy. Why would I ever give that away.
…love what brings you joy
SO RETHINK THE PLAN
Not your Mother’s Day plans. Enjoy your Mother’s Day. You deserve a day of incredibleness. You deserve a day in a way that makes you feel how fabulous you are and incredibly important you are to your tribe. You know this. I am telling you I know this too.
P.S. Remember, it isn’t just one day. And you are in charge of that.
